„Eigensinn im Bruderland“  ist eine Webdokumentation über Migrant*innen, die als Vertragsarbeiter*innen, als Studierende oder politische Emigranten in die DDR kamen und ihre eigenen Vorstellungen behaupteten. Menschen aus Äthiopien, Chile, Mosambik, der Türkei und Vietnam erzählen von ihren Erfahrungen und von ihren Kämpfen. Akten der DDR-Behörden, Bilder und Einführungstexte erläutern Hintergründe zur Migration in die DDR.

“Minds of their own: Migrants in the GDR” is a multimedia web documentary that tells the stories of migrants who came to the German Democratic Republic (GDR) as contract workers, students, or political emigrants, and and how they held their own in the new society. People from Ethiopia, Chile, Mozambique, Turkey, and Vietnam discuss their experiences and struggles. The documentary also includes documents from GDR authorities, images, and introductory texts to give a fuller picture of what migration was like in the GDR.
